In 1914, Burkhard Mangold created a striking design for the Bernese specialty store 'Vier Jahreszeiten' (Four Seasons), a prominent example of Swiss poster art. The scene depicts two gentlemen in a changing room – one getting dressed in striped trousers and a bow tie, the other in the act of putting on a fresh shirt. The composition captivates with its flat color areas and the distinctive, almost expressionistic lines that are so characteristic of Mangold's style. The warm color palette of ochre, delicate pink, and deep black gives the motif a clear visual language that goes far beyond mere advertising. This poster is not only a document of early 20th-century fashion history but also a strong example of the development of modern graphic design in Switzerland.
You will receive a modern reproduction of the depicted motif, not an original poster.

Do you have any questions?
What does Atelier Orlo do?
Atelier Orlo curates historical poster art as high-quality poster prints. The selection ranges from old advertisements, magazine covers, and travel posters to medicine, theater, Art Deco, and Art Nouveau.
It's not just about a motif being old. What's crucial is whether it still resonates today: through color, typography, composition, or a little story you'd like to have on your wall.
Can I return the poster?
Yes. You have a 30-day right of withdrawal. As the buyer, you bear the costs of the return shipment. Please return the poster well-protected, preferably in its original packaging or similar secure packaging.
Is it an original poster?
No. Atelier Orlo does not sell original posters, but carefully selected reproductions of historical designs. This makes historical poster art accessible without claiming to be a collector's original.
Does the poster come framed?
No. All posters are delivered unframed. This allows you to choose a frame that matches your room, wall color, and interior design style.
What kind of paper is used for printing?
Printing is done on matte 200 g/m2 paper. The surface is smooth and non-reflective, so that colors, typography and details of the motif appear calm. FSC-certified or equivalent paper is used.

Selected for Atelier Orlo
I'm Niklas and I founded Atelier Orlo. The selection includes designs that are not only old but still resonate in a room today. Sometimes through color, sometimes through typography, sometimes through a small story within the image. That's exactly what Atelier Orlo is for: posters that don't feel like arbitrary wall decorations.
